What is
burnt black?
Burnt Black is our maiden and to be instituted yearly fashion event where up and coming clothes and accessories designers get to showcase their products and design styles to business people and the general public.
The concept show does not only seek to find new talent but also to assist new talent launch their businesses and become profitable. Though Burnt Black will be looking for the ultimate winner each event, we look forward to also giving all contestants a helping hand in achieving their entrepreneurial goals and dreams.
Burnt Black challenges the concept of the modern day Ghanaian fashion show, by being a sales platform for competitors. So each designer stands the chance of selling a lot of clothing on our various platforms such as our VIRTUAL SHOWROOM and much more.

How do I
Register?
To get involved as a competitor you would need to fill out the registration form, which will cost you GHc50 and this gives you access to the competitor platform and its resources such as reduced prices for fabrics etc. Once registered you will need to then produce a specified fashion product for judges to determine if you will be short listed or not. You would have to document the whole process in pictures and video [ as if you are shortlisted such material will be used for media promotions on TV, radio etc and on our own platforms as well as during the actual show. Please note once you complete your initial product design and manufacture, you will need to get it modeled and presented professionally for our judges who will be awarding marks and judging digitally. If you are shortlisted then the design concepts and products you decide to develop will be done using free fabrics provided by Burnt Black. You will also get the opportunity to speak to business gurus we will make available to you the contestant to develop your business [with some even investing in you win or loose the competition.
The
show
On event day, you will finally showcase your design concepts to our list of business clients and the general public. the actual catwalk will be attending by a hand picked list of business owners, who can not alone afford to buy your products but can also become your business partner. We at Burnt Black will also choose some contestants for employment with us and with some of our partners in the fashion world.

started
So, once you fill in the registration form and pay your registration fee, you are in with a position to be one of the shortlisted 10.
You will need to produce just one item designed and manufactured by you, showing the following:
- Sketches and drawings you made before sewing.
- Video of the process you went through to develop the final product.
- Snap shots of various stages of the development process, from concept drawings to final product.
- Wear and model your product, or get a model to showcase it and record a short video.
For your entry piece, we will be looking for you to develop an outfit that can be worn to a night out with friends at INFERNO. Thus, your piece needs to be easy to wear, yet classy and eye catching enough to make the wearer admired by all.
Don’t forget that you outfit will also have to be packaged and delivered to INFERNO for our panel of judges to decide if you make the cut or not.
Our judges will be looking at the following:
- Use of fabric – your economic use of fabric.
- Color combinations and harmonization.
- Stitch perfection.
- Style [judges looking for unique signature styles].
- Choice of fabric.
- Your picture/video presentation quality and innovation.
- Packaging – brand label, packaging concept and presentation.
- Pricing of your product.
Once you make it through the selection process, you will then unlock the support of INFERNO to develop your 3 pieces for the runway day.
Please remember that the theme for the runaway is BURNT BLACK. This is our way of saying designed and fashioned in Africa. So, your designs must be hot, trendy and most of all wearable on a global platform. We are not trying to say ‘hey look at me I am an African’, but rather ‘hey look at me I am dressed to impress.
